The loading times are very fast.Īlthough the game supports single player play, it turns out to be quite boring. Gamers generally tend to work together, even when no one is using the available voice or text chat. To be successful, only one miner must make it to the escape pod at the end. You can also join other miners, through a server browser or a quick join filtering allows you to sort the types of difficulty and mission. To that end, the drop-in co-op works very well, as you can choose to make your mission deployment private or public. You can make your own way, or try to follow your MULE which leaves markers – but because it can climb walls and ignore gravity, that’s not always doable.Ĭrossing and mining is best done with other players, as the game feels like a first co-op experience. At the end of each mission, you must also go to a randomly placed escape pod within five minutes. Helpfully, your map shows the location of targets in Egg Hunt, Salvage Operation, and Elimination, so you don’t wander around the caves for long. Finally, elimination missions simply have you take down up to three large and powerful Dreadnought bosses. Gems emit their locations via a blue light, so you know where to dig.Īfter extracting the gems, you must again defend the mining platform from the enemy waves. In point mining, players only have one large cave, where they have to mine special shiny gems and bring them back to the central mining platform. With Salvage Operation, players locate and repair two mini-MULES, which lead them to a crashed drop pod, which must then be repaired and defended when enemy waves attack. Egg hunts are somewhat similar, as they require players to extract a number of eggs hidden in caves. Mining Expeditions are straightforward and simply require players to collect a certain amount of specific gear. They also have a secondary purpose, which simply means collecting rare minerals. All missions indicate their approximate length and complexity, so you pretty much know what type of cave you’ll be exploring. One of the perks is being able to turn an enemy bug into a friend – an odd choice given the messy nature of combat and the amount of friendly fire even between dwarves, not to mention something enemy-like.Īll of these actions and mines take place in one of five types of missions. Perks can be active, such as gravity boots or being able to delay your death for a few seconds, and passive, such as moving faster and dealing damage to enemies. Perks must be equipped and you will have more perks available than can be used at a time, furthering the idea of various loadouts instead of a single almighty character. There is also a perk system, for which you earn points by completing certain milestones, such as completing a certain number of missions, eliminating a specific amount of enemies, etc. The upgrades focus mainly on expanding the available ammo and stopping power of your gear. These upgrades require materials and a certain level of experience – which is why you do all this mining. To help players better prepare for battle, you can upgrade your characters’ equipment.
